Quality brickwork award 1992

Article Abstract:

The winner of the UK 7th annual Quality Brickwork Award 1992, arranged by the Brick Development Association and Building magazine, was the Colonial and Mutual building at Chatham, Kent. The builders were Costain Construction and Lyons and Annoot. The 2 and a half year project cost 40 million pounds sterling. The building has 3 stories above a one-level car park. Traditional materials were used, such as slate, handmade Chatham Mix brick and Flemish bond to match the 18th century Chatham Dockyard. Includes details on 12 regional winners.

Quality brickwork award

Article Abstract:

The 1993 UK Quality Brickwork Award organised by the Development Association and Building was awarded to the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds, Yorkshire, UK. There were 12 other regional winners. The Yorkshire Playhouse consists of 2 auditoriums. The largest, The Quarry Theatre seats 750 people and the smallest, The Courtyard Theatre seats 350 people. The builder, Amec Building has utilised patterned and different-coloured brickwork to great effect paying attention to detail.

Article Abstract:

Companies in the construction industry describe their experiences of attaining registration under the quality assurance standard, BS 5750. The seven companies are representative of materials manufacturers, contractors and professional services. All have successfully completed the requirements for registration and are finding it is beneficial to their businesses. The process of attaining registration requires committment from management and takes about 18 months.
