Quelle drops 300,000 books in China, plans 1 million in '98

Article Abstract:

Die Quelle of Germany, touted as the largest mail order house in Europe, recently distributed 300,000 copies of its 4th Chinese language catalog in the Shanghai metropolitan area. The company states that it is too early to determine the level of response but expects to have a 5% to 10% response rate. The cataloger reportedly plans to send out a million books in 1998 as a follow up on the half million mailed in the fall and winter of 1997. Quelle has its own call center in Shanghai and can handle orders coming in by mail, phone, fax or e-mail. Fashion apparels are produced locally but uses European patterns.

Wegener drops 2 million books in Czech Republic

Article Abstract:

Wegener Direct Marketing, a Dutch direct marketing company, mailed two million copies of "The Information Service, " an eight-page catalog, in Czech Republic. The full-color catalog listed a wide range of products from about 26 Czech and foreign companies. Wegener, which entered the Czech market through its acquisition of Interpost Prague in January 1998, plans to mail a second edition of the catalog in January 1999. The catalogs are delivered by Dillex, an alternative to the Czech Post, whose delivery is not guaranteed.
