Reading through the post addressed to John Major

Article Abstract:

During the 1992 general election campaign, a group of retiring Conservative politicians answered the mail addressed to the Prime Minister and other senior party members. The post on the subject of housing and construction contained many complaints and concerns about homelessness, house reposessions, falling house prices and the use of local authority capital receipts. However, there were few letters from builders, architects or other construction industry professionals despite the fact that letters to the party leader can influence the election campaign.
