Sales talk

Article Abstract:

The Joint Committe for the Construction Industries has predicted a 12% rise in the UK property market for 1993. Consumer confidence has increased due to high Christmas spending and the rise in car sales. Continued unemployment could be a problem but many mortgages contain redundancy protection clauses. The Chancellor Norman Lamont's Autumn Statement provided 750 million pounds sterling to housing associations to buy repossessed or unsold new homes. The House Builders' Federation announced a 2-year strategy plan called Traget'93 on Jan 14 1993. It wants to abolish stamp duty and push for more building land.

Housing on the move

Article Abstract:

House builders are optimistic following a significant increase in the number of people visiting new housing developments. The builders report up to 40% more potential buyers vising sites over the Easter 1992 weekend than in the weekends preceding the general election in March. They also claim more of the visitors were seriously interested in buying and predict an end to the depressed housing market.

What price justice?

Article Abstract:

Some contractors find the costs of arbitration and litigation prohibitive and consider that a dispute is not worth fighting for if it is under 10 thousand pounds sterling. Some major contractors now employ their own lawyers, although the costs of an in house legal department could amount to over 1 million pounds sterling a year.
