Screensaver doubles as DM tool to aid organ research

Article Abstract:

Rhode Island Soft Systems Inc, a software engineering firm based in Woonsocket, RI, in Oct 2000 provided Tuczon, AZ-based International Bioresearch Solutions (IBS) with a direct marketing tool called Liverdance: Parody Screen Saver. With the screensaver, IBS expects to increase traffic to its Web site from 200 visits per week to 400. IBS coordinates with organ procurement groups to place human organs with research institutions when the organs are not medically suitable for transplant.

CNN offers Web tool to advertisers

Article Abstract:

CNN will offer streaming video and audio technology to banner advertisers on its network of Web sites that will allow site visitors to run the ad's video and audio, regardless of the media players or plug-ins they have. CNN will provide the service to advertisers through an agreement with EyeWonder, the developer of the Java-based streaming technology. The company tested the technology in Apr 2001 with several advertisers, including Volvo and Comdisco.

Minute Maid juices product launch with sweepstakes

The Minute Maid Co, the Houston, TX-based operating group of the Coca-Cola Co, is suing an online sweepstakes to generate Web traffic and attention for its new product, Simply Orange. The company is also using offline marketing, such as point-of-purchase materials and television spots, which complement the Web site ads. Minute Maid is initially targeting the Northeast, which is considered the 'juice bowl' of the US.
