Service gives free long distance if callers listen to targeted ads

Article Abstract:

BroadPoint Communications of Landover, MD, has launched FreeWay, which provides free long-distance telephone service within the US to callers who are willing to listen to commercial messages that are tailored to their interests. The company, which has 10,000 subscribers in the Pittsburgh, PA, area has already signed on 70 advertisers, who will pay only for the messages delivered. BroadPoint President and CEO A. Perry Kamel said the company ensures that the whole commercial is heard by subscribers because a response is required from the caller at the end of each message prior to the free call. One of the advertisers, Eagle's Eye Sportswear has reported a response rate of 27% from the service.
