Slimline tonic

Article Abstract:

A 400,000 pounds sterling contract has been given to R Corben and Sons to repair the external steel and concrete fabric of the De La Warr Pavilion at Bexhill-on-Sea, UK. The main defects are to the columns supporting the projecting balconies caused by sea spray. The steel cores are rusting and the covering render has cracked. Rust is removed by sand-blasting and the columns are covered with an epoxy anti-rust primer. Cement render is pumped into the steel core and over the entire column to provide fire-proofing. The cement render is waterproof.
