St Ives gold

Article Abstract:

The Tate Gallery in St Ives, England, which opened in 1993, has proved to be a strong attraction, with visitor numbers being three times the levels anticipated. The building is withstanding high usage levels well, but there is considerable pressure on storage and staff facilities. It has been found that the unpredictable sequence of the galleries confuses visitors, and a feasibility study for improvements is now being instigated. However, the building exterior blends in well with its surroundings, while also retaining its own identity.
