Striking accord

Article Abstract:

The 32 million pounds sterling Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, England, will be the new home for the city's Halle Orchestra. The project was originally awarded to a joint venture between Renton Howard Wood Levin (RHWL) Partnership and Beazer as a develop and construct contract, but Beazer's financial problems meant that the RHWL design was put out to tender under a design-and-build contract form. Contractor Laing North West was awarded the predesigned project and the building is expected to be completed by mid-1996.

Role reversal

Article Abstract:

Laing Chiltern is building a new theatre in High Wycombe, England under the JCT63 form of contract while the refurbishment of the adjoining town hall is a design and build project being built by Wiltshier Midlands. Laing's project manager admits the contract has not helped in a complex job and feels he was left out of decision making. However, the theatre will be opened in Nov 1993, within the contract time limit. It has seating for 1000, dressing rooms, scenery dock, offices and catering facilities.
