Sykes boosts European revenues

Article Abstract:

Sykes Enterprises, a US-based Internet technology and call center services company, expects to reap the benefits of its European expansion in 1998 when foreign sales are expected to account for 35% of total revenues. Over the past 18 months or so, the company has been snapping up European call centers in the UK, Germany, France, Ireland and Belgium that has significantly expanded its European presence that started out from a call center in Amsterdam in 1994. Expansion is a necessity as consumers in the region have a high preference to converse in their native tongue, said Robin Smith, who handles investor relations at the Amsterdam center.

VSP cuts staff, serves more callers with IVR upgrade

Vision Service Plan, the Sacramento, CA-based provider of vision care for HMOs, government entities and corporations, has reduced the company's requirement to recruit new representatives with the success of the 'customer-friendly' changes made with its interactive voice response (IVR) system. Among the changes implemented were simplification of the menus, shortening the greeting and reduction of the number of recorded voices.

Site bids to make experts's wisdom an online commodity

Information Markets Corp of New York has launched its information auction service at www.infomarco.com. Online users pose a question at the company's Web site or at third-party portal site hosting the service. The company will then take the query to many of its 10,000 registered exports, and bring bids answers back to the visitor. Information Markets will get 20% of the expert's fee.
