Article Abstract:

Quantity surveying concern Henry Riley & Son has appointed partner Jim Hendley to pursue work in development management. It will set up a new company to combine the requirements for successful development work, and it is already nearing completion of preparations for its first project. Hendley believes that it is time to rethink the traditional role of the quantity surveyor, moving away from just dealing with financial matters and developing advisory and communications skills as well. His career progression is discussed.

Article Abstract:

The Carolina door, a six-panel design with a head-height, semicircular fanlight made up of four glass segments, is extremely popular in the UK. It is usually made from Far East hardwood, and is elegant, durable and cheap. It gives a home a Georgian appearance, but meets modern requirements for safety and security. It is thought that around 50,000 are sold every year in the UK.
