Article Abstract:

The Construction Industry Computing Association and KPMG Peat Marwick published a report on the use of information technology within the UK construction industry in Apr 1993. Eight hundred companies were canvassed, including builders, civil engineers, architects, quantity surveyors and consultant engineers. Only 160 replied. Results showed that contractors have been investing 0.25% of their current turnover in information technology since 1990. Consultants' expenditure has decreased from 1.5% of fee income in 1990 to 1% in 1992. Computer-aided design is utilised by 30% of contractors.
