Article Abstract:

The Building Research Establishment will not receive any government funding by the year 2002 following the management buy-out of the company, in Spring 1997. The UK government previously gave the company 37.1 million pounds sterling annually, but the grant for 1997 has been cut to 23 million pounds sterling. The new management team will need to compete with other companies for work and they hope to take 15% more work annually from the private sector. The management have reduced 115 workers from a total of 660 staff although they have appointed some new employees in key positions.
