Article Abstract:
The new Part L of the Building Regulations, which is due to come into effect in Jul 1995, will affect floor insulation used in individual homes, rather than in commercial buildings, which mostly meet the standards of the new regulations already. All new buildings will have to have an energy rating under the government's Standard Assessment Procedure, but the choice of floor insulant will depend mainly on the floor construction. There are many insulation materials available, including expanded polystyrene, mineral wool and bubble foam.
