Three-way adaptor

Article Abstract:

Slough Estates PLC has created a new concept in industrial building design. The Flex building has interchangeable components, so tenants can adapt it to suit their own needs. The building has a three-storey office area at the front. The remaining portion is left open and without flooring. The cladding is the innovative feature, as tenants can change cladding panels to be windows, louvres or other features. A Flex building tenant, Lonza Biologics, has created an atrium behind the office area, and is fitting the rear section with laboratories and warehousing.

Leads on the line

Article Abstract:

UK railway infrastructure concern Railtrack will provide a great deal of work for the construction industry as it plans to invest 1 billion pounds sterling over five years in the refurbishment of railway stations. It has reached partnership agreements with Lovell, Taylor Woodrow, Laing, Bovis and Kier, and each of these companies will be responsible for a specific region, except in the case of key projects. It is expected that partnership agreements will flow down the supply chain.

The system was set up by the project management firm of Taylor Woodrow (Taywood), primarily to increase productivity and reduce costs through ensuring information is shared throughout the construction site. The system is expected to help reduce the cost of the project by up to 10%.
