UPS debuts e-Ventures to incubate e-commerce support

Article Abstract:

United Parcel Service of America Inc (UPS) of Atlantra, GA, has formed a subsidiary called e-Ventures to provide back end services for electronic commerce firms. At the same time, e-Ventures will use the existing warehouse and delivery resources of UPS to help e-commerce companies succeed. The subsidiary is developing five different businesses, foremost among them e-Logistics which will provide small and medium e-commerce firms outsourced warehousing, customer service and order picking.

JCPenny mulls selling DMS units

Article Abstract:

JC Penney Co Inc announced that it is considering strategic alternatives for its Direct Marketing Services (DMS) division. DMS offers numerous insurance products and membership clubs through direct mail and telemarketing. The firm said its alternatives include the division's sale or the forming of a joint venture which would operate it. Possible buyers for DMS include American International Group Inc, GE Financial Assurance and other large insurance firms.

MRP bankruptcy could cost telemarketers millions

Article Abstract:

Minimum Rate Pricing Inc's (MRP) bankruptcy filing could cost telemaketers millions of dollars in unpaid billings. The Cedar Grove, NJ-based firm, which filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in Feb 1999, listed $33 mil in assets and $116 mil in debts. MRP, a long-distance service reseller of MCI WorldCom, has unpaid debts to a number of teleservices firms including MCI WorldCom, ProMark One and The Signature Group.
