Underground, overground, CO2-free

Article Abstract:

The Hockerton Housing Project near Newark, England, is made up of five small terraced houses. The development aims to allow residents to produce their own clean energy, recycle waste materials and obtain their own water while creating no pollution or carbon dioxide emissions. High levels of energy efficiency have been achieved by using 500 tonnes of earth to cover the top, sides and rear of the terrace to ensure maximum heat retention in the rear two-thirds of the living space. The homes have conservatory frontages.
