Warsaw facts

Article Abstract:

UK construction professionals who become involved in projects in Warsaw, Poland, can face many challenges. There is an urgent need for new office and retail accommodation in the city, but excessive bureaucracy and unpredictable public services mean that progress with construction projects can be very slow. Safety standards on construction sites can be poor, and site security is also a problem. It is necessary to be extremely patient, particularly with officials. Local residents are friendly, and Warsaw has a vibrant nightlife.

Whose line is it anyway?

Article Abstract:

A secondary team of engineers, architects and quantity surveyors were appointed by British Telecom (BT) to oversee the construction of its new 37 million pounds sterling Scottish headquarters in Glasgow. The decision was made to shadow the main design team so alterations could be made to ensure the final building complied with BT's strict Workstyle 2000 specifications on office and workspace design. The two-tier team system placed enormous pressures on the main team, leading to delays and increased expense.
