Cooperation between housing associations and local authorities could play a significant role in urban redevelopment, according to housing association Guinness Trust Chief Executive Mike Cohen. He reports that Guinness Trust is already working with some local authorities to consider what they would do with their land with Guinness and then tendering the rest to developers to achieve the highest prices. It is important to find ways of generating revenue to support community facilities, according to Guinness Trust Development Director June Barnes.

One architect who has taken the concept beyond traffic control is planning a sustainable garden village that encompasses housing and workplaces. The village could produce its own electricity, combustible fuel, water and some food needs.
