Article Abstract:

Significant proposals on manufactured housing and related bills were passed by the California Legislature in 1998. The inclusion of a transfer disclosure statement for the sale of manufactured homes was approved. Additional bills that were passed include the Mobilehome Residency Law and rent control regulation. Under the Mobilehome law, tenancy contracts may be terminated for conditions such as nonpayment of rent and the commission and conviction of a crime within the premises. Industry watchers believe that the creation of a standard on fire sprinklers is in the offing.

Article Abstract:

"Christmas in April" is a community-based project aimed at helping underserved Americans to renovate and repair their homes. The project, which began in 1973 in Midland, TX, helps low-income homeowners, particularly the elderly and disabled, who are incapable of producing enough money to repair or replace their homes. Homeowners who apply are adopted by sponsors who donate the average cost of the job and arrange for a group of volunteers to complete the project.

Article Abstract:

Kim Sanler is a young professional who was able to bring her family together through the help of her local pastor, church friends, especially Linda and Hank Butterfields, and the California Manufactured Housing Institute (CMHI). This became possible due to the Butterfields' initiative to raise funds to pay for a new home for the family. Since the contributions did not suffice for the completion of the project, the couple contacted the CMHI.
