Babyshoe.com's new customer acquisition program did not start perfectly after the company failed to gauge correctly the size of its intended market - birth annoucements. Babyshoe.com, formerly known as the Livonia Catalog, promised new parents six free baby announcements in exchange for the names and addresses of six other persons. CEO Michael Schwartz said that people assumed that they were marketing a catalog of baby annoucements. Products featured on the direct mail catalog range from the company's NameDate baby shoes, piggy banks and a rubber ducky lamp.

Wine Enthusiast toasts more pages, increase in circulation

Article Abstract:

The Wine Enthusiast plans to increase catalog mailings in preparation for the 2000 holiday season. Adam Strum, chairman of Wine Enthusiast, says the company mails three or four times more during the holiday season than during other times of the year. Its fall catalog would be mailed by early September with 25% more pages while its holiday book would be out by November with 35% more pages. The company plans to double its staff in its fulfillment and call centers to handle the higher mailings.
