Across the counter

Article Abstract:

Post office counter staff are falling short of their own performance targets, being unable to answer simple questions effectively. Only about one in three questions put by researchers received a full answer while nearly one in five replies were incorrect. There was little difference in the quality of replies provided by trained Crown-office staff and untrained sub-post office staff. The situation should improve with increased post office automation. A number of organisations exist to handle complaints from customers dissatisfied with the service provided by post offices.

Delivering results

Article Abstract:

In an evaluation of Post Office services, neither Royal Mail or Parcelforce managed to deliver all parcels within the specified time. In the event of the recipient being absent, the parcels were left in the porch, garage, or with a neighbour, and in the majority of cases a card was not left to explain where the parcel had been left. In the Post Offices themselves, staff questioned gave out wrong information on insurance, delivery times, and packaging advice.

Over-the-counter painkillers

Article Abstract:

More than 100 painkillers were analyzed chemically and scored for value. There is little difference in effectiveness among brands, but buying generic products by name, such as paracetemol, is often far cheaper than widely-advertised brand names. A special section of kid's products is included.
