Bargains abroad - your rights

Article Abstract:

It is possible to make substantial savings by shopping abroad for certain items. However, it is important to be aware that serious problems may emerge if the product proves unsatisfactory. When purchasing an item costing more than 100 pounds sterling, it is best to pay by credit card, although some card issuers allege that they are not liable for purchases made abroad. The rules relating to goods purchased outside the European Union are more complex. UK sales of goods laws and advertising rules apply to the web sites of UK-based internet retailers. However, there may be risks attached to buying items from non-UK internet sites.

Driving abroad

Article Abstract:

There are a number of factors which must be taken into account by UK holidaymakers wishing to drive their own or a hire car abroad. It is vital to check that any car being taken abroad is properly insured for this purpose, with extra premiums being paid where necessary. It is worth obtaining a 'green card,' which does not in itself provide insurance cover but is recognised by the police and other officials in European countries. Some extended insurance policies for driving abroad offer breakdown cover, which is not compulsory but is worth having.

Calling abroad

Article Abstract:

International calls are currently available from more than 200 companies. An evaluation of prices for ten minute calls to Australia, India, Ireland, Jamaica, South Africa and the US, revealed that the cheapest companies to use were Scottish Telecom, ACC Telecom, First Telecom and Swift Call. Callers away from home are advised to avoid BT payphones for international calls and use instead an international prepaid account or a calling card from a payphone.
