Beat the heat and kill the cold

Article Abstract:

Air conditioners can help to keep people comfortable in their homes in Australia, but first it is a good idea to consider other ways, such as insulating, to get similar results without spending so much money. Reverse-cycle or heat-pump air conditioners can both heat and cool the home and produce higher heat output than electricity input for greater efficiency. Six remote-controlled reverse-cycle split systems were tested. In a split system the working part, the compressor, is outside the house with the air outlet inside.

Your cooling options

Article Abstract:

People have various options in making their homes cooler during the warm weather. Homeowners can remodel their homes for better energy efficiency or install insulation. Renters can install window shades or curtains, or purchase fans or evaporative air coolers. The last resort, but always an option, is to purchase an air conditioning system.
