Diets that help you lose pounds sterling

Article Abstract:

Meal replacement diets are tempting ways of losing weight quickly, but do not change a dieter's eating habits which caused initial weight gain. Thirteen meal replacement diets, in the form of soups, milk shakes, snack bars and biscuits were tested. Only SlimFast was able to prove slimming success in the long term. However, meal replacment diets are high in calories and sugar. The calories they contain are counted, as energy intake can be controlled, and the products also contain minerals and vitamins. The draft EC directive on meal replacements recommends that hunger satisfaction claims should be omitted. Other recommendations are also discussed.

Disabled people lose out

Article Abstract:

Alliance and Leicester and Halifax building societies will allocate free shares only to people who are 'qualifying members,' that is to say the first-named person on the account, when they convert to bank status shortly. This means that people who rely on another person to operate their account will not be eligible for free shares. This is particularly the case with severely disabled people, whose account may be managed by a carer. Both societies state that they will give only one set of benefits to each qualifying member, so each account handled by a single carer will not receive a full allocation.
