Don't pour money down the drain

Article Abstract:

Other methods of calculating British water bills should be made available, says the Consumers' Association. Water meters, currently the only alternative to the traditional ratable value method, are criticised because they are expensive to install, repair or upgrade and encourage low usage in poor families. A number of other methods of payment are discussed. Average water costs, calculated using the ratable value method, are given for a number of areas in England and Wales.

Holiday horrors

Article Abstract:

There are many potential problems related to holidays, and it is worth being aware of what could go wrong and how to deal with it. It is important to take note of any delays or booking errors, and to record any alternative accommodation or meals offered. If the facilities mentioned in the brochure do not turn out to be available, it is possible to complain to the tour operator's representative. Compensation may be available in certain cases.

Holiday money

Article Abstract:

It is worth taking a number of different means of payment away on holiday. Foreign currency is important when travelling to destinations in remote areas away from tourist centres, but in other cases it is wise not to take too much cash. Each form of payment should be kept separately, and details of any telephone helplines should also be kept handy. The most cost-effective way to pay for things will vary according to the holiday destination.
