Executive cars

Article Abstract:

Audi's new 100 executive car, launched in May 1991, has a good range of safety features and has a galvanized body which should have good rust resistance. It is available as either a saloon or an estate, in a range of 14 models, and should give a comfortable and satisfying motoring experience. Peugeot's 605, which comes in nine models, is only available as a saloon and, although roomy and comfortable, has an unrefined engine. Tables giving options and prices, ratings and general information about the two cars are presented, plus brief assessments of their competitors.

The new Golf

Article Abstract:

Volkswagen's 9,324 pound sterling, 1.4 CL three-door Golf and 12,869 pound sterling, 1.8 GL five-door Golf cars face fierce competition from a number of other new small family cars. The Golf 1.4 CL suffers from a sluggish engine, heavy steering and a stiff gear-change but is economical and offers a good driving position. The Golf 1.8 GL is more expensive than most similarly-equipped cars in its class but has a smooth, willing engine and is pleasant to drive. The five-door 1.8 GL Golf is worth considering as a small family car.

Automatic argument

Article Abstract:

Automatic cars are easier to drive but they are more expensive and use more petrol. Acceleration surging was not found during tests. The Ford Fiesta 1.3i LX was the best supermini. The Citroen ZX Aura 1.6i and the Rover 216 SLi were both good buys in small family cars. The BMW 316i and the Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8i GL were impressive large family cars. Executive cars Ford Granada 2.0i LX and Vauxhall Carlton 2.0i GL both had good features.
