Practising vets should be registered with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), which has a Guide of Professional Conduct and which inspects vet training centres and British Veterinary Hospital Associations hospitals. Similarly, the British Veterinary Association is the professional association for vets, for which membership is voluntary. When selecting a veterinary practice for a pet, check prices, quality of treatment, and cleanliness and comfort of the premises.

Boarding pets

Article Abstract:

Five vets who visited 62 licensed kennels and catteries found 1/4out-of-date and badly designed. Hygiene, pen sizes and exercise facilities varied. Cats should be separated by 'sneeze barriers' to protect them from infection. Pens should not be stacked on top of each other. There should be isolation facilities for sick animals. The British Veterinary Association published guidelines in 1985. It is important to look round kennels and catteries before choosing one.

Issues are presented concerning the standards of kennels and catteries in the United Kingdom. Five establishments which were licensed but which were found to have inadequate facilities are listed.
