Companies often deal badly with customer complaints or have misleading codes of practice. Companies should ensure that they provide customers with enough information about their products and services. Guarantees are sometimes at the supplier's discretion and after-sales service can be disappointing. Reaching customer services on the telephone can be frustratingly difficult. The Sale of Goods Act gives consumers protection against faulty goods and legal action can be brought up to six years afterwards. The law in Scotland differs.
