The term 'champagne' is reserved only for sparkling wines that come from the French Champagne region, where chardonnay, pinot noir, and pinot meunier grapes are grown in a cool climate. Australian sparkling wines can hold their own against true champagnes, though the warm climate yields a fruitier grape. Over 5 dozen sparkling wines were tasted, and are presented in 3 price categories. Tips on storing and serving sparkling wine are included.

Six brands of probiotic yoghurt and five fermented milk beverages sold in Australia were assessed for their content of beneficial bacteria. Levels of L. acidophilys, bifodobacteria, L. casei and L. rhamnosus GG strain varied by brand and by the freshhess of the product.
