Stripping paint: Removing old gloss paint from doors and furniture can be time-consuming and messy. A heat gun can make the job easier

Article Abstract:

A range of heat guns for stripping paint have been tested. Electric heat guns soften the paint so that its easier to scrape away, but they are not suitable for water-based or acrylic paints. A belt or orbital sander is suitable for large flat surfaces, and chemical strippers soften the paint, although fumes can be unpleasant. The best heat guns on test were the Bosch PHG 500 at 25 pounds sterling and the Bosch PHG 500-2 at 25 pounds sterling. The Black & Decker KX 1682 at 30 pounds sterling was the most widely available.
