The CMBS market: a 1998 review and the top ten trends for 1999

Article Abstract:

The commercial mortgage-backed securities market continued to expand rapidly through 1998, with total issuance representing a 75% over the 1997 volume at a record-breaking $78.2 billion. However, the market experienced a number of adverse disruptions in Aug 1998. Despite these setbacks, however, the commercial mortgage-backed securities business, which is still a developing industry, appears to have survived its first great test but will most likely experience other periods of volatility as it evolves into a mature market.
