The technology

Article Abstract:

Voice-recognition systems are comprised of a language model, a speaker model and a dictionary/vocabulary. Analogue waves are converted by a speech recognizer into digital signals that can be understood by the computer. The language model will interpret grammar and syntax, while the dictionary/vocabulary separates words into units of sound called phonemes. All speech recognition systems contain active vocabularies resident in the RAM and larger vocabularies available on the hard disk.
