Versatile electric ovens: the eight electric multi-function wall (or under-bench) ovens on test all cooked well

Article Abstract:

Wall or under-counter electric ovens provide space and cooking flexibility. One disadvantage is the grill is part of the unit, thus preventing baking and grilling at the same time. Four of the eight which were tested are highly recommended, but all of them have fan-baking and fan-grilling functions. The Simpson Evolution 912 63C912W, priced at $1,299, has the best ease-of-use with good lighting and visibility. The Westinghouse Freestyle POH668W, $1,069, scores well in both baking and grilling. The Bosch HBN 222B AU, $1,299, is the best for grilling. The Chef Classic EWOCLMF MW, $829, offers a smokeless grill plate.

What a corker: in an attempt to find the ultimate wine drinker's friend, we put 13 corkscrews and cork extractors to the test

Article Abstract:

Eleven corkscrews and two cork extractors were used with 100 bottles of wine to determine their ease of use and level of comfort when opening wine. The minimum price for each was $10, the top $50. The best single-lever utensil was the Argyle Waiter's Friend at $12 because its long handle provides excellent leverage. The Brabantia continuous-screw corkscrew at $28 has a coating on the screw and the cork, when removed from the bottle, is ejected from the screw. The Monopol Wing Lever, $22, and Zyliss Corkscrew, $30, are easy to use and sturdy when uncorking a bottle.
