What goes around: comes around - but the arrival of digital versatile discs could mean that video recorders, CD-Rom drives and even compact disc players won't be around for much longer

Article Abstract:

Digital versatile discs (DVDs) are now available in the UK, and a DVD player has been tested for watching films, and a DVD-Rom player for computers has been examined. DVDs look like CDs but can hold more information and were developed originally as a new format for playing films. However re-recordable DVDs will not be available for several years. The Panasonic DVD-A350 can play DVDs and audio and video CDs. It is compatible with Dolby Digital and MPEG surround sound. Creative Labs DXR2 fits inside a PC and can play DVD-Roms.
