Civic deals on wheels

Article Abstract:

Under the guidance of Jaime Lerner, mayor since 1971, Curitiba, Brazil has grown in population from 500,000 to 1.6 million and implemented a plan of controlled civic growth that has won awards worldwide. By restricting growth along specific corridors and focusing mass transit development there, Curitiba has a flexible, efficient mass transit system. Other programs including recycling, exchange of collected trash for food or bus tickets, and vocational training demonstrate Lerner's belief in caring government.

Morphological integration in the saddle-back tamarin (Saguinus fuscicollis) cranium

Article Abstract:

Mantel's test on 209 saddle-back tamarins' 39 craniofacial measurements from the Oak Ridge Associated Universities' Marmoset Research Center helped validate that functional and developmental aspects of the cranium are phenotypically, genetically and environmentally combined. The test compared correlation matrices to a set of theoretical intertrait connectivities indicating proposed patterns of morphological integration, after incorporating information on sex and environmental factors.
