Petrology and geochemistry of spinel peridotite xenoliths from the western Pannonian Basin (Hungary): evidence for an association between enrichment and texture in the upper mantle

Article Abstract:

Spinel peridotite xenoliths from the Pannonian Basin, Hungary, were analyzed to determine the petrology and chemical composition of these materials. The xenoliths exhibit high diversity in texture and are classified as protogranular, porphyroclastic, equigranular and poikilitic. The chemical composition of the xenoliths was found to be as diverse as their texture. The isotopic variation among the samples analyzed could be traced to the interaction between a protogranular mantle and melts. A third component may be present in this interaction as the subduction in the region during the Miocene Epoch.

Relationship between deformation, equilibration temperatures, REE and radiogenic isotopes in mantle xenoliths (Ray Pic, Massif Central, France): an example of plume-lithosphere interaction?

Article Abstract:

The modal mineralogy, mineral chemistry and REE patterns of the anhydrous spinel peridotite xenoliths from the Ray Pic Quarternary volcano in Massif Central, France were analyzed to characterize plume-lithosphere interaction. Analysis of the mantle xenoliths from the Ray Pic Quarternary alkali basalt volcano indicated the presence of two contrasting types of peridotite exhibiting LREE-depleted patterns and LREE-enriched patterns. Furthermore, the Ray Pic peridotite xenoliths were formed by the interaction of asthenospheric mantle-derived melts/fluids and depleted lithospheric mantle.

Petrology, mineral and isotope geochemistry of the Sondalo gabbroic complex (Central Alps, Northern Italy): implications for the origin of post-Variscan magmatism

Article Abstract:

A petrological examination of the least evolved rocks of the Sondalo gabbroic complex provides evidence as to their origin. The objective was to determine whether the Sondalo gabbroic complex is related to the Alpine gabbroic complexes which postdate the Variscan orogeny. The investigation of the troctolite/norite association was carried out by coupling petrography, major and trace element microanalysis and Nd-Sr-O isotopic analysis of mineral separates and whole rocks. Results provide insights into the origin of the post-Variscan magmatism.
