A yen for change

Article Abstract:

The yen's sharp decline in 1997 has forced many investors and companies to focus on Japan's merchandise trade surplus. A survey revealed that although some companies such as Honda Motor Co. have been successful in transferring their production abroad, other companies will be forced to cut labor dramatically. Based on a Jan report, yen's decline has resulted in falling trade surpluses between Japan and Southeast Asian countries.

Article Abstract:

The popularity of network computing, where a centralized computing system allows the server to string all software and data and leave the client free to access the Internet or company network system, has it group of sceptics. Network computers will allow a variety of applications, but they are more costly than personal computers and will be difficult to sell in countries less technically advanced than the U.S.

All change in Mongolia

Article Abstract:

Reform or die is the principle guiding Mongolia's newly elected politicians and President Bagabandi. The country is making sweeping changes by privatizing business, eliminating customs duties and developing incentives to make business attractive to foreign companies. It is a difficult feat considering the country's lack of infrastructure.
