Beds and bedroom furniture

Article Abstract:

The UK beds and bedroom furniture market is expected to grow to 1,840.8 million pounds sterling by the year 2002, from 1,704.4 million pounds sterling in 1998. Demand will be affected by an increase in divorce leading to higher levels of single households, while smaller families will reduce volume demand but increase expenditure per unit. Silentnight accounted for 21.6% of the beds and mattress market by value in 1995, rising to 23.8% in 1997.

Sounding off: listen up! Some words are just too close for comfort

Article Abstract:

Some words enjoy popular usage but they do not mean what users think they mean. Subsequently, the original meaning of the word is often lost. One example discussed is 'effete' which means barren, fruitless, wornout. People think it means snobbish and ineffectual, confusing it with 'effeminate' and 'elite.'
