Coffee

Article Abstract:

The UK market for ground coffee is predicted to be worth some 98 million pounds sterling in 2001 whilst the instant coffee market may decline to 688 million pounds sterling. The fall in the value of the instant coffee market is partially due to young people favouring soft beverages in preference to coffee. Instant coffee sales for 1997 are forecasted to be 745 million pounds, with granules taking a 56% share of the market. The market for ground and roast coffee is predicted to be worth 93 million pounds sterling in 1997. The market for ground coffee increased by 53% between 1992-96.

The tea market is dominated by three large players, Brooke Bond Foods, Premier and Karand, with a combined 64% share of value sales. Around 74% of tea sales are made through multiples. Seasonings

Article Abstract:

The U.K. market for seasonings is expected to reach 85.8 million pounds sterling in 1996, against 83.5 million pounds sterling in 1995. Within the market, some sectors, such as Mediterranean herbs and spices, have faired much better than salt and curry powder, which have experienced moderate to severe declines. The rising popularity of the cooking sauces market has also impacted sales of seasonings. It is forecast that the total seasonings market will reach 56.2 million pounds sterling by 2000.
