Competition and trade policy: identifying the issues after the Uruguay Round

Article Abstract:

There are several issues that need to be addressed to enable improved competition policies to be developed through international trade negotiations. Issues such as technology, increased privatization and the integration of markets across countries complicate the achievement of a fair competition environment. Multilateral options to achieve a linkage between trade policy and competition include better cooperation and consultation between governments, an international code and international treaties.

Special and differential treatment in the Millennium: special for whom and how different?

Article Abstract:

Issues are presented concerning the role of Special and Differential Treatment (SDT) in trading systems which are multilateral. The SDT within the legal framework of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade organisation is discussed.
