Completing the WTO accession negotiations: issues and challenges

Article Abstract:

It is deemed to be more advantageous to the world economy to permit the early accession of transition countries into the World Trade Organization (WTO). The main benefit of accelerating WTO accession for these economies is that this course might prevent them from forming or joining regional agreements that might be harmful to their economic development. China's entry into the WTO is seen as a development that will set the standards for WTO accession by other transition economies.

The stability of trade policy in the countries in transition and their integration into the multilateral trading system

Article Abstract:

The fall of Communism in Europe and the economic liberalization of communist countries in Asia have resulted to an increase in the number of countries interested in joining the World Trade Organization (WTO). The WTO should closely examine the application of these countries in transition to prevent potential problems regarding unstable economic policies caused by political instability.

China's WTO membership: what's at stake?

Article Abstract:

China's entry into the World Trade Organization has been hampered by a variety of issues, such as the determination of the appropriate economic status and the imposition of different rates of tariff reductions. A model is developed to examine the effects of various policy options. Results show that China's fears regarding the impact of trade liberalization on its economy is unfounded.
