Interacting with the Base Realignment and Closure Commission

Article Abstract:

An economic developer should schedule interactive meetings between members of the Base Realignment and Closure Commission and representatives of the community where the affected base is located. Through such dialogue and interaction, an economic developer can better prepare residents to accept the necessity of base closure because of economic reasons and find out the best way to revitalize the place through economic development planning.

An economic developer is naturally pressured by the demands of his work but he can easily face such stresses by simply following a three-step procedure. The process includes: pinpointing of strengths and limitations; doing away with emotionalism that is often enervating; and, refusing to do unneccessary work just to please others and, instead, applying oneself to work that is best suited to one's abilities and training.
