Environmental scanning for social services

Article Abstract:

The establishment of strategic planning processes by the British Columbia Ministry of Social Services in 1988 involves the use of a systematic environmental scanning program which takes into consideration several factors dividing the ten regions covered by the government agency. The ministry's regional directors and their staff are tasked with unearthing social service issues. These issues are then included in the ministry's annual Business Plan, which serves to inform the public regarding the ministry's values, objectives and operational goals for the year.

A mechanism for reducing small-business customer waiting-line dissatisfaction

Article Abstract:

The consumer decision process in small business retailing is analyzed against the satisfaction customers derive from a purchasing process which inevitably conditions retail store loyalty. The analysis is applied to the technique small business owners use in reducing customer waiting-line dissatisfaction while making a purchase. An employee is temporarily assigned to assist the original server when the line reaches a maximum level. The employee goes back to his actual job when the line reaches normal levels.
