Hopeless?

The terrible state of the Lebanese economy is an indication that hope for a peaceful settlement of the civil war is lost. The scheme proposed by Saudi Arabia has failed. There is a stalemate over the Lebanese-Israel agreement of May 17, 1983.

The UN Isn't the Marines

The United States cannot just pull out of Lebanon without violence resuming. A peace must be negotiated. This must be done before a peace keeping session will be effective.
