Huffing and Puffing over Tory Foreign Policy

Article Abstract:

Although there is growing support for British troop withdrawal from Lebanon by Parliament members of both sides, an endorsement for the cabinet position that withdrawal would endanger prospects for current peace negotiations, was approved. The political maneuverings within Parliament to block Labor Party-led opposition to European Economic Community (EEC) tax increases, consequently limiting British negotiating power, are described. It is estimated that Prime Minister Thatcher will encounter little difficulty in passing an EEC tax increase, if an approved agreement can be reached with European foreign ministers.
