Largest and predominant owners in Russian industry

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the problem of enhancing enterprise performance efficiency in a transitional economy. The author contends that enterprise health can be gauged by a coherent system of corporate control, which is found to be especially necessary in Russia because a lack of competition in key markets makes it difficult for the market to perform this function itself; the type of shareholder ownership that would ensure effective means of control over organizational behavior is explored, and strategies for corporate governance are suggested.
