Article Abstract:

Italy is seeking to carry out fiscal reform but official forecasts for the budget deficit at 3% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 1998 appear to be too optimistic. The devaluation of the Italian lira is likely to lead to inflationary pressure through rising import prices. Gross domestic product was up by 4% in 1st qtr 1995 compared with 1st qtr 1994. The rate of growth looks set to fall in 1996 with net trade growth slowing down. Fiscal reform could lead to lower output growth which could in turn affect the country's debt position.

Article Abstract:

Gad Rausing helped to develop Tetra Pak milk cartons, which have become commonly used in many countries. His father had set up a packaging company in Sweden, and the new carton was used to sell milk from 1952. The company employed few workers at first, but grew to have over 18,000 employees mainly due to the work of Gad Rausing and Hans, his brother. The company was called Tetra Laval from 1995, following the acquisition of Alfa Laval in 1991.
