Jubail and Yanbu expansion to continue at rapid pace

Article Abstract:

Saudi Arabia's industrial cities, Jubail and Yanbu, are going to experience 100% growth over the next five years if current plans are fruitful. The cities contain almost 100 business supporting 15 primary petrochemical operations with secondary industries numbering in the dozens. The kingdom is offering foreign investors 10-year tax exemptions for joint ventures in these cities and has numerous other incentives including tariff relief and free access to the infrastructure. Firms planning to take advantage of this program are advised to allow adequate lead time for administrative requirements.

Financial appraisal to support technological investment

Article Abstract:

Great Britain's investments are mostly geared toward short-term projects, while advanced manufacturing technology investment (AMT) is ignored. This is due to such factors as high discount rates and a lack of appropriate financial appraisal techniques. To stimulate AMT, a three-stage procedure is suggested which would involve the drawing up of an investment plan consistent with overall corporate strategy, the use of financial benefit analysis and the review of intangible benefits and costs inherent in the investment plan.

A theory of foreign investment: possibility, modes and timing

Article Abstract:

Possibility, timing and mode should be considered when formulating a theory of foreign investment. Analysis shows that these factors are simultaneously determined, with the determining variables being differential efficiency, variable cost of operation and export and technology transfer costs. In addition, costs and benefits associated with the different production environments in the home and host countries are found to influence foreign investment.
