Law, property, and marital dissolution
Article Abstract:
Legal and property rights affect the incidence of divorce and marital dissolution. This is evident in an analysis of two stylized models of marriage that take into consideration the consequences of fuller compensation for economic sacrifices made during marriage. In addition, a close examination of the utility possibility frontiers of two partners before and after divorce shows that the law can still have an effect on the incidence of divorce even in the absence of transaction costs and informational asymmetries.
